London Food Highlights

Below are links to some of my favourite food places in London (in alphabetical order). Great places to visit for dinner, lunch, and treats.

Antonio's Restaurant
Great For: Feeling like you're in Tuscany; Romantic dinners

This beautiful restaurant has an amazing authentic feel to and I felt like I was in an cosy Italian restaurant in Tuscany. It's also perfect for romantic dinners. Don't miss the wild boar ragout - very, very tasty.

Bea's of Bloomsbury
Great for: Scones! And other sweet treats

Possibly the most famous scones in London, Bea's has a deserved reputation for delicious scones (certainly the nicest I've come across). Unfortunately, the cafe is tiny so it can be hard to get a table - but they do take reservations.

Borough Market
Great For: Lunch, treats, dinner ingredients; a Saturday stroll

Still the most famous of London's markets, the Borough market is large and overflowing with great smells, sights and, tastes. It's a great way to spend a Saturday morning/afternoon, but be warned - it gets crowded!

Fabrizio Restaurant
Great for: Homecooked Italian dinners

Family-run Fabrizio's is a small, informal restaurant that is all about the food. Great prices and great meals make this place a firm favourite of mine. If the lamb and pea ragout is on the menu, get it!!

Gail's Artisan Bakery
http://www.gailsbread.co.uk/
Great for: Lunch, Scones, Treats; Sunday paper reading

Gail's have bakeries/cafes dotted around London. I can't vouch for them all, but if the Exmouth Market outlet is anything to go by, it's a super franchise. They serve a good selection of sandwiches as well as a wide range of fresh bread, pastries, and desserts. It's not the cheapest but it's worth the money, especially since you can pass the hours away with a paper and coffee after you polish off your sandwich on 'Artisan' bread.

Hummus Brothers
Great for: Snack, Lunch, Dinner - Hummus!

Such a brilliant idea! Excellent hummus is served plain, with pitta bread, or with a choice of delicious toppings.  This makes for a great, and very filling, lunch.

Princi
http://princi.co.uk/
Great for: A huge selection of Italian sweet treats and hot and cold food; Atmosphere

This fantastic cafe/bar/bakery/deli is perfect for all meals, whether you are looking for a tasty dinner or to treat yourself with some cake and coffee. It also has a fully stocked bar and the atmosphere is brilliant. Also does take-away, which is good because it gets really, really busy.

Restaurant at the Tate Modern
http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/eatanddrink/restaurant.htm
Great for: Views; Atmosphere

Located on the 7th floor of the old power station, this restaurant offers some great views of London, especially of St Paul's cathedral at night. Food is pretty good too and reasonably priced. But the setting of the museum adds an extra atmospheric element to a night out.

Wahaca
http://www.wahaca.co.uk/
Great for: Tex-Mex; Cheap eats

Wahaca have four Tex-Mex restaurants in London, including very central spots in Soho and Covent Garden. The food tastes great with a mix of tantalising flavours, and it's super, super value. The burrito is a classic and is highly recommended. They don't take bookings, but if you have to wait there is a bar on hand with Mexican beer and cocktails.
